===========================================================================
14th ACM International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI2012)
4th Workshop on Eye Gaze in Intelligent Human Machine Interaction:
Eye Gaze and Multimodality
Santa Monica, California, USA
October 26, 2012
http://www.ci.seikei.ac.jp/nakano/GAZE_ICMI2012/index.html
This is a series of workshops for Eye Gaze in Intelligent Human
Machine Interaction. Previous workshops have discussed a wide range of
issues for eye gaze; technologies for sensing human attentional
behaviors, roles of attentional behaviors as social gaze in
human-human and human-humanoid interaction, attentional behaviors in
problem-solving and task-performing, gaze-based intelligent user
interfaces, and evaluation of gaze-based UI. In addition to these
previous topics, this year's workshop focuses on eye gaze in
multimodal interpretation and generation. Since eye gaze is one of the
facial communication modalities, gaze information can be combined with
other modalities or bodily motions to contribute meanings of
utterances and serve as communication signals.
This workshop aims to continue exploring this growing area of research
by bringing together researchers including human sensing, multimodal
processing, humanoid interfaces, intelligent user interface, and
communication science.
TOPICS
This workshop solicits papers that address the following topics (but
not limited to):
* Technologies for sensing human attentional behaviors
- Sensing attentional behaviors using bodily motions such as pupil
movements,
head movements and torso directions
- Sensing attentional behaviors using brain activities
- Issues in tracking attentional behaviors in IUI
* Eye gaze in multimodal interpretation
- Eye gaze as multimodal communicative signals in human-human and human-
humanoid interaction
- Eye gaze in multimodal understanding
- Eye gaze in interpreting user's intentions, attitude, grounding, and
engagement in conversational interactions
* Eye gaze in multimodal generation and behavior selection in conversational
humanoids
- Selecting appropriate eye-gaze behaviors for virtual agents and
communication robots
- Effective multimodal expressions by combining eye gaze and other
modalities
* Empirical study for human attentional behaviors
- Attentional behaviors in interaction with computer systems including
humanoids
- Attentional behaviors in dyads and multiparty face-to-face conversations
- Implications of analysis of human attentional behaviors towards HCI design
* Evaluation and design issues for using eye gaze in multimodal interfaces
- Evaluation method for gaze-based multimodal interfaces
- Designs of user studies to identify the real impact of eye gaze in
multimodal interfaces
