Union project supported by ESCA, ELSNET, EURASIP, IALP, CPLOL. The network has
80 member sites across Europe and aims to outline future education.

			CALL FOR MEMBERSHIP
		     (deadline March 15, 1998)

!SOCRATES IS NOW OPEN FOR HUNGARY, POLAND, CZECH REPUBLIC, SLOWAKIA, RUMENIA!

The contract for the Socrates Thematic Network "Speech Communication Sciences"
has to be renewed for the period 01/09/98 to 31/08/99. This opens an
opportunity for sites to join the network. University departments, but also
research institutes and companies, that have an interest in developments in
training and education in Phonetics, Spoken Language Engineering, or Speech and
Language Therapy are invited to participate. Information about the
thematic network can be found at URL http://tn-speech.essex.ac.uk/tn-speech/

Any institution within the European Union can be a full member of the thematic
network. Moreover, institutions in Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slowakia
and Rumenia are enouraged to join since these countries will be eligible for
SOCRATES funding from September 1998 onwards. Institutions outside the EU are
encouraged to join the network as associate partners.

Requirements for membership (full and associated) are:
- A letter of endorsement signed by the head of the institution
    "I,  confirm that  wishes to
     participate in the Socrates Thematic Network "Speech Communication
     Sciences" coordinated by Dr Gerrit Bloothooft of Utrecht University.
      will represent this institution in the
     programme. I also confirm that I am authorised to endorse this
     application on behalf of my institution."
- Full coordinates of institution, department and contact person
- Type of organisation [Academic, Industry, Public sector]
- Total number of personnel in the institution, total number of personnel in
  department (full time equivalents).
- Type of degrees education is leading to.
- Involvement in EU projects (Education and/or Research), just acronyms!
