IAFP
The International Association for Forensic Phonetics (IAFP) was formally
established in York, England, in 1991. It seeks to foster research and
provide a forum for the interchange of ideas and information on
practice, development and research in forensic phonetics as well as to
set down and enforce standards of professional conduct and procedure for
those involved in forensic phonetic casework. For membership and other
information, please contact dr. Dagmar Boss, Landeskriminalamt Bayern,
Maillingerstr. 15, 80636 Muenchen, Germany.

Major topics
Papers and posters are invited on speaker identification, speaker
profiling, earwitness identification, transcription of disputed
utterances, tape enhancement, tape authentication and other related
forensic phonetic issues.

Special sessions
There will be two special sessions with invited speakers. One will be
devoted to the Role of the Expert Witness and the Status of (Forensic
Phonetic) Expertise in the light of the Starzecpyzel ruling and related
issues like the Daubert criteria and the use of Bayesian statistics, and
will be concluded with a forum discussion. In the second special session
invited speakers will report on recent trends in automatic speaker
verification and its implications for forensic speaker identification.

Submission of papers
IAFP 1998 will welcome all contributions in the areas listed above.
Three copies of a summary not exceeding 300 words should be sent to the
Conference Secretariat by April 10, 1998. All contributions will be
refereed by the Scientific Committee.
