Dear Colleague,

The SOCRATES Thematic Network in Phonetics and Speech Communication 
wishes to help education in our field by gathering and disseminating 
information about courses, materials and good practice.

The Computer Aided Learning working group seeks to collect information 
about computer-based teaching materials and tools used in courses in 
Phonetics, Speech and Language Therapy, and in Spoken Language 
Engineering.  We will then organise information about such material 
and feed it back into the community to promote the use of computer-
based methods.  In the future we see that this activity will also 
encourage the development of new materials.

Our first area of activity involves materials accessible via the 
Internet.  Many of you have already worked on highly relevant material 
(course texts, data, tools, etc.) that could be extremely useful to others.

At this stage, all we ask is that you express an interest in our 
activities.  We can then communicate via e-mail to an interested group.  
We want to know:
  (i)  if you have some relevant computer-based material on the Internet
       or material you are willing to make available;
  (ii) if you would be interested in being kept informed about computer
       aided learning in Phonetics and Speech Communication.
