POSITION AVAILABLE at PARIS XI UNIVERSITY, ORSAY, France : Section 27 - Post
# 0065S.

FULL PROFESSOR in COMPUTER SCIENCE,=20
Specialty : COMPUTER VISION and IMAGE PROCESSING, in the framework of
HUMAN-MACHINE COMMUNICATION
*****************************************************************

The Laboratoire d'Informatique pour la M=E9canique et les Sciences
de l'Ingenieur (LIMSI-CNRS) wants to develop its research activities
in the field of Computer Vision and Image Processing for
Human-Machine Communication.

The present research activities within LIMSI in the field of Human-Machine
Communication include Spoken Language Communication (speech analysis,
synthesis and recognition), Natural Language Processing (text analysis and
generation,
dialog), Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Gestual Communication,
Multimodal Interaction (integration of several modalities, such as
speech, text, gesture, image in the framework of an interactive task)
and natural and artificial cognition. Those activities involve 21 CNRS
researchers, 20 academic researchers, 13 administrative and technical
staff and 41 PhD thesis students, within 4 research groups. Among them, 10
people
are already conducting research activities close to Computer Vision and
Image Processing (analysis and synthesis).

LIMSI wants to recruit as a priority a Professor who would have the
"research" mission of developing and driving the "Computer Vision and Image
Interpretation for Human-Machine Communication" activities. But the other
areas of Image Processing and Computer Graphics, covering image analysis and
synthesis, will also be considered.

The "teaching" activities will be comparable to those of UP11 academic
researchers in Computer Science : he/she should be able to teach courses on
the basics of the disciplin, from the 1st to the 3rd cycle, and to teach=
 courses
in the 3rd cycle on the domains where he is a research specialist.

All interested French and Foreign people are invited to submit an=
 application.
They should have a French "habilitation a diriger les recherches",
or an equivalent diploma. The foreign candidates should be able to teach in
French, when they will start their teaching activities.

Orsay is located 30 minutes from Paris, through RER B, or
through the A6-B6 motorway. The Paris XI Orsay Scientific Center
is one of the largest French scientific universities, if one considers the
number of PhD theses defended every year. The Computer Science Department
constitutes an important international pole of competence, within its two
laboratories :
LIMSI, a CNRS laboratory, and LRI (Laboratoire de Recherche en=
 Informatique),
a university laboratory associated to CNRS.

ATTENTION : there is little time to submit your application forms: the
forms should be submitted to the University Administration by January 17th,
1997,
before 12h00, noon.
