The Institute for Language, Speech and Hearing - ILASH -
was set up within the University of Sheffield in 1994. The Institute
aims to provide a focus and common resource for interdisciplinary
research in language, speech and hearing by providing an environment
in which collaboration in these and related areas can flourish. Work
is being carried out in various aspects of information retrieval,
natural language processing, auditory modelling, artificial
intelligence, linguistics, speech science, speech technology,
computational psychology and neural networks, making the language,
speech and hearing research community at Sheffield one of the largest
in the U.K.
