The Department of Computer Science at the
Gerhard-Mercator-University Duisburg is conducting research in several
fields of Man Machine Communication: speech processing, handwriting
recognition, gesture recognition, person and object tracking, other
visual communication techniques. They've developed a multilingual
TEXT-TO-SPEECH system based on formant synthesis, using the
cascade/parallel formant synthesizer designed by Dennis Klatt. The
currently active languages are German, American English, and Japanese.
