The Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA),
formed by hiving off the then Telecommunications Branch of the Post
Office, was established as a separate government department on 1 July
1993. It serves as the executive arm of the Telecommunications
Authority (TA), which is appointed under the Telecommunication
Ordinance (Cap 106) as the statutory body to oversee the regulation of
the telecommunications sector in Hong Kong.
