The Núcleo Interinstitucional de Lingüística Computacional
(NILC) was created in 1991 to foster research and development projects
in Computational Linguistics, including Natural Language Processing,
Lexicon Development, Corpus-Based Processing and Discourse Modeling.
Though it was originally conceived by scientists from the Department
of Computer Science and Institute of Physics from the Universidade de
São Paulo (USP) in São Carlos, it now includes computer scientists,
linguists and research fellows from Universidade Federal de São Carlos
(UFSCar), Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) of Araraquara and
Univesidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP).
