I am a woman, actually - and if you got my earlier message then, thank you Mounia, this is exactly what I was trying to say. We are of course free to live our lives of supposed intellectual freedom and non-discriminatory ethics in the belief that this bears no relation to the rest of the world. But I don't think this makes elsnet an inappropriate forum to try to attract researchers here who might wish to engage with people of similar interests and ambitions in places where they cannot take such freedoms and ethics for granted - and to work within the structures that are available to them to try to give them the knowledge, and therefore power, to change those structures. Quoting Mounia Lalmas <mounia_(on)_dcs.qmul.ac.uk>: > Dear all > > I am a women and was born and brought up in Algeria :-) > > In some culture/country, women have very little right, and unfortunately there is little they can do about it. I strongly believe, from my very own experience, that bringing education to these women is the way to improve their situation, and eventually the only way. And if the only way this can be done is by employing other women, so be it! > > Mounia Lalmas > > Fiorella de Rosis wrote: >> Any woman in ELSNET? comments on that issue only from men? >> >> I may say that I would not accept to work in a country in which women are discriminated in this way. And I feel proud of being part of a European culture in which this kind of discriminations are not admitted. Multiculturalism is a richness, but being open to other cultures does not mean necessarily accepting discriminating and unfair rules. >> >> Fiorella de Rosis >> >> At 15:55 2005-10-12 +0200, ELSNET wrote: >> >> >>> Eric Atwell wrote: >>> >>>> This is a sensitive linguistic issue...
