ICHIM 2001 has the theme Cultural Heritage and Technologies in the Third Millennium. This choice emphasizes the interplay between innovative technologies and their applications to Cultural Heritage. This intersection should be examined with a specific attention to the evolution of Cultural Heritage Institutions, whose new forms are determined by the combined impact of innovative technologies and the changing social expectations of their role. ICHIM has been held every two years since 1991, alternately in North America and Europe. ICHIM 1997 was held in Paris (at the Louvre museum), and ICHIM 1999 in Washington D.C. ICHIM 2001 will be held at the Politecnico di Milano, where we expect at least 500 specialists, from museums, cultural organizations, universities, research institutes, technology companies and organizations. Blending different areas of expertise and approaches is the trademark of ICHIM, and we encourage broad participation. AREAS of INTEREST Cultural Heritage and Technologies in the Third Millennium is the overall theme for ICHIM 2001. Submissions should address technical, cultural, social, organizational, or economic issues. Five main areas have been identified: * Technology-based communication of Cultural Heritage * Changing organizational paradigms, enabled or enhanced by technology * Innovative Technology for Cultural Heritage Documentation * Applications of Innovative Technology within Cultural Heritage Organizations * Technology Enabled Services for Cultural Heritage ORGANIZATION UNDER THE AEGIS OF EUROPEAN COMMISSION IST Programme, Fondazione CARIPLO CITIES Milano COUNTIES Genova, Milano, Roma, Perugia, Torino, Venezia REGIONS Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Puglia, Umbria, Sicilia, Val d'Aosta, Veneto MUSEUMS Museo alla Scala, Museo Archeologico, Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Musei Civici Milanesi, Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica, Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Pinacoteca di Brera, Poldi Pezzoli HONORARY COMMITTEE Adriano De Maio - Dean of Politecnico di Milano (Italy) Gabriele Albertini - Mayor of Milano (Italy) Ombretta Colli - President of the County of Milano (Italy) Eleonor Fink - World Bank Roberto Formigoni - President of Lombardia Region (Italy) Giuseppe Guzzetti - President of Fondazione Cariplo (Italy) Renato Parascandolo - Director of RAI-Education (Italy) Salvatore Settis - Dean of Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (Italy) Bernard Smith - European Commission CONFERENCE CO-CHAIRS Paolo Paolini - Politecnico di Milano (Italy) Jennifer Trant - Archives & Museum Informatics (USA) PROGRAM CO-CHAIRS David Bearman - Archives & Museum Informatics (USA) Franca Garzotto - Politecnico di Milano (Italy) PROGRAM COMMITTEE (by continent and country) Europe Francesco Antinucci - Università di Roma (Italy) Benedetto Benedetti - Scuola Normale di Pisa (Italy) Manfred Bogen - GMD, German National Research Center for Information (Germany) Tatyana Bogomozova - Russian Academy of Sciences (Russia) Mario Brito - Università do Porto (Portugal) Eelco Bruinisma - University of Leiden - Computing in the Humanities (The Netherlands) Francesca Costabile - Università degli Studi Bari (Italy) Alberto Del Bimbo - Università di Firenze (Italy) Lorcan Dempsey - DNER at King's College, London (England) José Diez-Higuera - University of Valladolid - Communications and Telematics Engineering (Spain) Vito Di Bari - UNESCO Multimedia Agency (Italy) Concha Fernández de la Puente - European Commission Alain Giffard -Ministry of Culture (France) Alice Grant - Alice Grant Consulting (England) Cary Karp - Swedish Museum of Natural History (Sweden) Ladislav Kesner - CMS/LORD Culture Consulting (Czech Republic) Klaus Lehman - Dieter Preussischer Kulturbesitz Unter den Linden (Germany) Stefano Levialdi - Università La Sapienza di Roma (Italy) Gunnar Liestol - University of Oslo (Norway) Domenico Lini - Museo Scienza e Tecnica Milan (Italy) Jari Lybeck - National Archives of Finand (Finland) Dan Matei - CIMEC (Romania) Otmar Moritsch - Technisches Museum Wien (Austria) Bruce Royan - SCRAN - Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network (Scotland) Alberto Seassaro - Politecnico di Milano (Italy) Oreste Signore - CNUCE-CNR (Italy) Bernard Smith - European Commission Magne Velure - Ministry of Culture (Norway) Isabel Vinson - UNESCO - Sector for Culture - New Technology for Culture (France) Tine Wanning - National Museum of Denmark (Denmark) Annalisa Zanni - Poldi Pezzoli Museum Milan (Italy) America Rachel Allen - Smithsonian Museum of American Art (USA) Maxwell Anderson - Whitney Museum of American Art (USA) Jim Blackaby - Mystic Seaport (USA) Susan Chun - Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA) Steve Dietz - Walker Art Center (USA) Douglas Evelyn - National Museum of the American Indian (USA) Larry Friedlander - Stanford University (USA) Kati Geber - Canadian Heritage Information Network - CHIN (Canada) Alicia Haber - MUVA Virtual Museum of Arts EL Pais (Uruguay) Slavko Milekic - University of the Arts (USA) Gustavo Rossi - LIFIA University (Argentina) Scott A.
