Membership Application

Commercial or industrial organisations

The following criteria must be fulfilled by commercial organisations wishing to join ELSNET:

  1. The organisation should have a proven record as a supplier or user of speech and NL products or services;
  2. The organisation should undertake to use (or take steps to obtain) electronic communication facilities (i.e., at least email and WWW) in order to participate in Network activities;
  3. The organisation should declare itself willing to actively participate in the activities of the Network, and should indicate the nature of its possible contribution (e.g., membership in ELSNET committees, participation in workshops, willingness to receive student trainees, etc.)
  4. The organisation should appoint an ELSNET Contact Person, who will be automatically appointed member of ELSNET's Industrial Advisory Panel; Panel members are not required to attend any meetings or do any real work, but they should declare themselves willing to provide ELSNET with solicited (and unsolicited) advice;
  5. The organisation should submit its organisation profile to the ELSNET directory of Language and Speech Technology Organisations;
  6. The organisation should submit the Expert profile of the Contact Person, as well as the profiles of other key staff to the ELSNET Directory of Language and Speech Technology Experts

Academic or non-profit organisations

The following criteria must be fulfilled by academic or non-profit research organisations wishing to join ELSNET:

  1. The group should be internationally recognized, with at least 3 long-term staff engaged in a relevant research area; it should normally have a PhD programme or be prepared to accept placements of students who are carrying out PhD research; and it should be taking part in international research projects;
  2. The group should submit a written account of recent research activities and a list of selected publications in the area;
  3. The group should submit an account of its future research strategy and explain how this fits in with the goals of ELSNET;
  4. The group should declare itself willing to actively participate in the activities of the Network, and indicate the nature of its possible contribution
  5. The group should appoint one of its members as the ELSNET Contact Person
  6. The group should submit its organisation profile to the ELSNET directory of Language and Speech Technology Organisations;
  7. The group should submit the expert profile of the Contact Person, as well as the profiles of other key staff to the ELSNET Directory of Language and Speech Technology Experts

Associate membership

Organisations from outside Europe or organisations that have an active interest in language and speech technology but that do not fulfill all the membership criteria may apply for Associate Membership. Associate Members have the same access to our services, but may not be eligible for some special discounts or other forms of financial support because of EU regulations.

Please give the name of a single person who will be the node contact, responsible for distributing information about ELSNET within your organisation, and for keeping ELSNET up-to-date about the developments within your organisation.
