Spoken language dialogue systems (SLDSs): high-complexity multi-task, task-oriented spontaneous speech systems, particularly dialogue management and human factors development; next-generation conversational domain-oriented SLDSs which are no longer defined in terms of the tasks they solve but solely in terms of their knowledge domains; extension of SLDSs to natural interactive systems including facial expression, gesture, and bodily posture input/output; Modality Theory and multimodal systems; virtual meeting spaces; wearable devices and ambient intelligence; best development and evaluation practice for SLDSs and natural interactive systems more generally; natural interactivity corpus development and analysis: data, coding schemes and coding tools; ITC research strategy and brainstorming. I am a member of the Executive Board of ELSNET and a member of ISCA, ACL and SIGdial. |
