CogSci-Workshop "When eye see you - Gaze and joint attention in human interaction" Call for Abstracts Gaze behavior provides fundamental mechanisms for sharing mental states such as goals and desires and helps to ground communicative content. Responding to or leading someone's gaze to a location or an object of interest thus may result in a situation of joint attention - a referential triad between two individuals and an entity in the environment. Since people often look at what they attend to and where they intend to act, joint attention is considered fundamental to an understanding of other minds and the interaction with them. This workshop aims to explore how traditionally separate research areas such as social cognition/neuroscience, psycholinguistics, human-computer interaction and developmental psychology contribute to an understanding of the general phenomenon of gaze-following and joint attention from different perspectives -- and how these fields can benefit and learn from each other, e.g. by comparing different approaches and methodologies. More on this workshop can be found at: http://www.coli.uni-saarland.de/~masta/cogsci13_JA.html SUBMISSIONS: We explicitly encourage submissions from all related fields, i.e., psychology, (social) neuroscience, linguistics, and human-computer interaction. Abstracts should present theoretical, experimental, and/or computational research on any aspect of human interaction involving mutual and/or object-oriented gaze. Together with our keynote lectures given by Andrew Bayliss, Susan Brennan, Peter Mundy, and Elizabeth Redcay, accepted abstracts will form a program of oral (and possibly poster) presentations throughout the workshop day. Due to the limited number of available time slots, only a small number of submissions (roughly 6) will be selected for oral presentation. Submissions should not exceed one page, including figures and references. The main text should be limited to 350 words. Please send only PDFs by email to: whenICU.submissions AT gmail.com Important Dates Submission Deadline: 25 May Notification of Acceptance: 20 June Workshop Date: 31 July Maria Staudte & Ulrich Pfeiffer (Workshop Organizers) __________________________________________ - ELSNET mailing list Elsnet-list_(at)_elsnet.org - To manage your subscription go to: http://mailman.elsnet.org/mailman/listinfo/elsnet-list
