ISSCO was founded by the Dalle Molle Foundation in 1972
and was based in Lugano, Switzerland. It moved to Geneva in 1976.
ISSCO's mandate was research into cognition and semantics, however
over the years the institute has come to specialise in natural
language processing and, in particular, in multilingual language
processing and translation issues.
