The natural language group at the University of Sunderland
has about 10 members including research students. Most of them are
based in the School of Computing and Information Systems, although
there are some in other Schools, especially, the Psychology group in
Health Sciences. The main focus of the group is on applied rather than
theoretical work and on text rather than speech processing, with the
main areas of interest being:
+ aids for the disabled especially aphasics (see also the PSET
project)
+ multi-lingual document authoring (for example the MABLe project)
+ computer aided language learning
+ information retrieval and information extraction (including the
Verity project).
